Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d’Aligre, Margaux, France, 2005
Chateau Bel Air-Marquis d’Aligre is possibly the most important Chateau in Bordeaux you’ve never heard of. Jean-Pierre Boyer has now produced 69, yes SIXTY NINE, vintages at the same estate. The 2020 harvest will be his seventieth at the spritely age of 87, though he posseses an enthusiasm and energy some younger men only dream of.
Situated just a five minute drive from the iconic First Growth property Chateau Margaux there’s no questioning the quality of the terroir as some of Monsieur Boyer’s vines, all of which are over 100 years old and some significantly so, almost nestle against those of the more fabled estate.
