6 x Calusari, Pinot Noir, Romania, 2019
Romanian wines have been an important option as a good value alternative to French and Italian wines during recent years as prices from the more well known wine producing regions steadily increase. Calusari is an excellent example of this, with their Pinot Noir first impressing us back in 2015 when it stood out amongst a blind tasting. All the other wines were French, and more expensive.
It’s also flummoxed experienced tasters, again when served blind, and it’s even been mistaken for a Californian Pinot Noir with a value of around £20 – not bad going considering its only £9.99
