Boschkloof, Patatsfontein Montagu, Western Cape, South Africa, 2020
A single vineyard wine from Boschkloof made from 100% Chenin Blanc, although this is labelled using the traditional South African name for the cultivar – Steen.
The fruit is sourced from the almost forgotten growing region of Montagu, now primarily used for producing fruit which will be made into straw wine.
This wine bristles with intent, imposing with its lean yet muscular structure and unbridled tension. There is a hint of reduction and struck match owing to the slate soils. Notes of sun ripened yellow plum, nectarine, quince jelly, oyster shell, sea salt and a flint driven minerality.
