À Peu Près, Sauvignon Blanc, Loire Valley, France, 2019
This is technically an unclassified Pouilly-Fume, made by David Maudry, from a vineyard planted literally next to his classified Pouilly-Fume vines. The reason this vineyard wasn’t classified? Well, there wasn’t a vineyard planted here when its now neighbour was classified by the Loire elders…. simple.
What this means is that you’ll find the same zippy acidity and underlying slate driven minerality as the Pouilly-Fume, just at a much more modest price. You’ll also find notes of lemon zest, lime peel and a complement of lychee and tinned peach. All in all, this is rather delicious.
