Black Elephant Vintners now exclusively available from Museum Wines.

“To thrive where others fail. To push the boundaries of conformity in an industry that has long forgotten to have fun.”

This is the mission statement of Black Elephant Vintners and one very much shared by ourselves, making it all the more exciting that we can now announce they’ve joined our South African portfolio

Black Elephant Vintners were founded in 2013 by business partners Kevin Swart (Black in Afrikaans) and Raymond Ndlovu (Elephant in Zulu). Their trio is completed by winemaker and viticulturist Jacques Wentzel who previously worked at fellow Franschhoek farm and Museum Wines favourite Môreson.

Their wines have featured within our range since 2018, when we first met Kevin whilst visiting the region, and they’ve now decided to work with us exclusively as their UK importer, distributor and retailer.

Despite being a relatively young farm the wines are no stranger to international acclaim. Their ‘Dark Side of the Vine’ Semillon, which is produced from fruit grown in a Franschhoek vineyard planted in 1905, was heralded as one of the most exciting wines of the year alongside a score of 97/100 from Christian Eedes when it was first released. Unsurprisingly it is now highly sought after.

We’re also introducing their MCC Brut, which bangs its head towards AC/DC in its label design. The wine has never been available in the UK before and the Chardonnay dominant blend sees 28 months of total lees ageing prior to disgorgement, significantly more than the 15 months that most Champagnes at this price would receive. What this translates to is a delicate brioche character, a rich, creamy complexity and exceptionally fine mousse making it a wine offering fantastic value for money.
