Axle Chenin Blanc scored five stars by Platter…

Not only does Axle Chenin Blanc have one of the the coolest labels within our range but it’s also just been awarded with the coveted Five Star accolade from John Platter in his annual wine guide celebrating South African wine.

Axle is made by winemaker Alex Milner, whose family run farm Natte Valleij is already a critic favourite having been scored highly by both Tim Atkin and Jancis Robinson. Two of the most influential names in wine journalism.

I first tried this wine when I visited Alex at the farm in January this year, he told me that one of the reasons he’d made it was that Chenin Blanc was his wife’s favourite white wine and he was fed up of having to buy it from other producers so decided he’d make some for her himself!

Clearly he doesn’t do things by halves, rather than just knock up something cheap and cheerful he’s made one of the best expressions of the cultivar on the planet for her. If that’s not love then I don’t know what is.
