Co-owner of Holden Manz Wine Estate Gerard Holden is smiling. Theinaugural release of the Proprietors’ Red Blend 2015 has been awarded Top 100 and Double Platinum in the 2020 National Wine Challenge.
“2015 was an exceptional vintage and this is an exceptional blend made from grapes grown on the estate in Franschhoek,” shared Gerard. “This is the debut release of our Proprietors’ Red Blend and we are delighted it has been recognised in this way.”
The Proprietors’ Red Blend consists mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah and was developed in conjunction with Cellar Master Thierry Haberer who commented that “the 2015 harvest was low in tonnes but super high in quality making these grapes perfect for wild fermentation and vinification which extracted loads of colour and flavour.”
Managing Director of Museum Wines, Daniel Grigg recently opened a bottle and had this to say:
A wild fermented blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Syrah aged in mostly old oak. And from the iconic 2015 vintage as well. What could possibly go wrong?! Well, not a lot but I urge anyone who tries (and everyone should) to take a virtuous approach. This wines deserves time, it’s not a pop n pour crowd pleaser to simply douse one’s palate with. Open and decant this in the morning, enjoy in the evening. You’ll be rewarded with pure cassis and bramble fruit from the Cabernet, garrigue herbs, violet petals & white pepper from the Syrah. Give it time and it will sing.
