GAJA: 96 point Brunello di Montalcino 2016

Angelo Gaja’s wines are some of the most sought after in the world, here’s your chance to secure a new release…
“Wine here in your country is a discovery, a new interest, like entertainment. It’s an occasion.”

The Gaja family name is impossibly, irretrievably intertwined with the history of Italian wine production and the emergence of wines that could rival the big names of France in terms of quality and, importantly, demand.

Widely considered to be the “Godfather of Barbaresco” has been instrumental in spearheading the evolution of the region to become just as important and sought after as the very best from neighbouring Barolo.

Not content with that Angelo then set his sights on Tuscany, where the likes of Tenuta San Guido and Ornellaia had established a cult following for their Super Tuscans in Bolgheri and where he set up Ca’Marcanda.

However, Pieve Santa Restituta is Tuscany, or Toscana, in arguably its purest form. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese grown in the hills of the tiny town of Montalcino. This is Gaja’s Brunello di Montalcino, and it’s a beauty.

Greg Sherwood MW rated the already iconic 2016 vintage with a staggering 96 points and having just tasted it ourselves (quality control is important) we’d go as far as to say that may even be a little cautious…

The wine is utterly sublime, profound and an effortless example of how to harness a fresh and inviting perfume in perfect harmony with the gravitas and pedigree you’d expect from both Gaja and Montalcino.

Almost irresistible now yet this will be thrilling to watch develop over the next decade or two. We’ve secured a ten case allocation, click below to order yours.
