Bordeaux: Pauillac

Vintage quality and tasting comments The red wines in general were of high quality with beautiful color, good body and a good tannic constitution. The wine has a very deep color, with a rich and profound nose of musk, leather and ripe fruits. Rich mouth with charm and roundness and an elegant finish. Quality: Good year

Louis Roederer Cristal
2000
Champagne
France
|
The jewel of the House is Cristal, created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II. This is champagne at its finest, as inspired today as it has always been, the embodiment of elegance and purity.
Cristal is made according to the strictest criteria, based on a drastic process of selection applying to the vintage, the cru, the village, the grapes and finally the wines. Only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from the House’s 10 most celebrated crus are used in the production of this legendary cuvée

Pol Roger Extra Cuvee de Reserve
1996
Champagne
France
|
Complex and compelling, this vintage Champagne is dominated by Pinot Noir, the style Sir Winston preferred. It has a vivid, refreshing grapefruit acidity and lingering purity of fruit, yet is framed with the elegance that has become the signature of this great house.

Chateau Langoa Barton
Saint Julien 1995
France
|
This is often looked at as the second wine of Leoville Barton, but it is actually a separate estate, producing wines that are slightly softer than the more formidably endowed and broodingly backward Leoville Bartons. The outstanding 1993, a softer version of the Leoville Barton, exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, sweet black cherries intermixed with subtle herbal notes, roasted meats, juices, and black currants. In the mouth, it is expansive, savory, round, and seemingly on a much faster evolutionary track than Leoville Barton.

Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru
2006

Lovely clean orchard fruit aromas of apple and pear abound with butter and creamy new oak vanilla. The palate is wonderfully textured with rich biscuity fruit and nut flavours. A good cut of fresh acidity and underlying minerality keeps everything in focus. Cracking stuff.

Candied cherries, chocolate and spice in the nose. Rich and intense in the mouth, but a clean finish.
